Fiat 500L possibly soon as Abarth with 180 hp

The wonderful 500L might be too much of a softy for some people, but that might soon change once those people can head to their Abarth-dealership to order one. The brand with the scorpion has had to do with the Punto and 500 for quite some years now, but something new is lurking around the corner. Something with 180 hp. That is what Abarth-CEO Marco Magnanini would have leaked during his presence at the IAA in Frankfurt.

It is not the first time this rumor has reached us, but this time around it seems to be more concrete. The 500L 1.4 MultiAir with 180 hp would produce 270 Nm of torques (200 Lb-Ft) and cost a bit less than Mini’s Countryman Cooper S. Even an Abarth-version of the Panda was not excluded by Magnanini. It looks like Abarth will soon be aiming at a larger target group, then, and will stay an important brand for the Fiat-group. Understandable, really, as the Scorpion attracts a wider crowd than Fiat would on its own (especially more manly). The addition of an Abarth would yet again mean the expansion of the 500L-range after the Living and Trekking.

I think the 500X would be a good candidate for the Abarth treatment. Abarth need to expand their range, but in a tasteful manner.
I’ve recently left the brand ‘cos of the lack of range. I now drive a Juke Nismo, which is in the stage of being re-chipped to 250 bhp, by the manufacturer, but I would be very interested in a similar styled Abarth. Hope the 500X is the one !!!!
