Fiat 500L fitted with innovative City Brake Control

We have said it before, but did you know that the new Fiat 500L can be optionally fitted with the clever City Brake Control? That’s how Fiat calls this package including several safety options which intervene when necessary. We saw one of these safety techniques debuting on the Panda a year ago, the ‘Collision Mitigation’ and ‘Collision Avoidance’, both of which prevent an accident from happening at speeds between 5-30 km/h (3-19 mph), or at least reduce the impact to a minimum. These systems can be activated or switched off through the menu on the display of the board computer. The distances are measured by sensors in between the rear-view mirror and the windscreen (picture above) and it is also linked to the ESC-system (Fiat’s ESP).

Furthermore, the safety package includes stuff as Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Prefill and Brake Assist. All these techniques aboard are one of the reasons why the 500L earned a five star-rating at the Euro NCAP-tests. City Brake Control can be fitted to any variant of the Fiat 500L; the Pop Star, Easy and Lounge. Stay tuned, by the way, because we will soon be publishing our first driving impression.
