The annual Concorso d’Eleganza di Villa d’Este was held last weekend at the Lago di Como. It is generally considered one of the most beautiful concourses in the world for historical cars and new designs, not least because its location. But of course mainly due to all the gorgeous Italian car designs that are to be admired. Creations from long ago and ones from the present have always played a big role at this event which was first organized in 1929. This year was no different with Corrado Lopresto bringing along his incredible collection. The man owns even more rare Alfa Romeos than the Museo Storico di Arese itself and arrived in his Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Gran Sport Zagato Aprile from 1931 this time. A vehicle which demonstrates the grandness of the brand from Arese.

Born in Southern Italy and famous because of his collection, he won yet another trophy (two, in fact) with this gorgeous model. The well-known 6C 1750 GS Zagato was bought by Carrozzeria Aprile from Savona in 1938 for 400 lire. A new design by designer Mario Revelli de Beaumont was then developed and built. Lopresto purchased this jewel in 2008 and had it restored under the directions of his competent self and in cooperation with the Politecnico di Milano. This university particularly did research towards the original paintwork and then recreated it as authentically as possible.

Maserati – still celebrating its centenary – won a trophy as well thanks to its gorgeous dark blue 450 S from 1956 of the Swiss collector Albert Spiess. The Trident’s jubilee was also highlighted by the presence of its latest concept, the Alfieri. This stunning creation was shown in public and in broad daylight for the very first time. FCA has already revealed that its new GT will be built in Turin from 2016 onwards and that it will share many elements with this Alfieri, for which we have nothing but praise.
