Top Gear: Fiat Panda 4×4 best SUV 2012
The new Fiat Panda 4×4 has received the Top Gear Award 2012 for ‘SUV of the Year 2012’. No Range Rover, Audi or other big all-wheel drive-SUV’s, but the small yet complete Italian in which you feel way bigger than is actually the case. We again see the earlier shown Bigfoot-version which will indeed be used for Fiat’s campaign for the Panda 4×4; ‘Così la usi, così la vedi’ or ‘that’s how you use him and that’s how you see him’. Something we can only agree on given our earlier meeting with the mountain goat. The Panda 4×4 gives its driver a real feeling of stability and control, no matter what the surface is made out of. Comfort and off-road capabilities go hand in hand, and keep in mind we’re talking about an A-segment car here. We think it is a combination of several factors which creates the perfect mix. The new ‘regular’ Panda is already very solid and well-finished. Add the right technique to that and what you get is a small yet very reliable SUV. At Top Gear Magazine, they apparently came to the same conclusion.
The award of the British magazine is actually perfectly timed, as now is the period that Fiat is really putting the lovely Panda 4×4 in the spotlight. The start of the campaign is at the – now ongoing – Motor Show of Bologna where the visitors are given the chance to have a go in it off-road. Coincidentally, yet also perfectly timed, the winter is really starting this weekend with lots of snow all over Europe, which is also good for the Panda 4×4. ‘Feeling big’ has meanwhile become the slogan for all other Panda-models as well.
