Maserati GranTuismo Sport1 The best of two worlds: Maserati GranTurismo Sport 2012

Maserati presented the new GranTurismo Sport to the press last week. The dazzling coupe could already be seen at the Geneva Auto show. The GranTurismo Sport is the successor of the ‘S’. The model is recognizable by its new specifically designed front spoiler. There won’t be any confusion which car is in front of you, the normal version, the MC Stradale or this Sport version. Last mentioned is positioned between the other Maserati GranTurismo’s. Of course the new Sport produces more power than it’s predecessor, about 20 hp more come out of the 4,7 l V8. Other features are a customized robotized transmission which will underline the high performance of the car. Inside the car there are some enhancements in regard to ergonomics and newly designed interior parts. This model will be available from July, Maserati has already a lot of attention from the Middle East.

The positioning of the car is unique in the segment of exclusive coupes. This car is very stylish and remarkably comfortable (skyhook suspension). On the other side this 4.88 m large car is capable to deliver an excellent performance. Both characteristics combined together is a great car, serving you the best of comfort and ultimate power. Only cars like the BMW M6 and the Jaguar XK-R offer something like this Maserati. The Sport has a total weight of 1880 kilograms, which doens’t seem really light. Except the front spoiler, the other noticeable things are the headlights (equipped with Day Running LEDs). The rear lights are darkened and have a total of 96 LED’s. The rims are finished in black and this finish is also optional available for the exhaust system. A new option is the color ‘ Blu Sofisticato’ , a blue metallic paint, which looks magnificent. This last paint is the 18th available finish for the Maserati GranTurismo.

The new V8 produces 460 hp out of 4691 cc and a torque of 520 Nm at 4750 rpm. The interior is fitted with the existing MC Sportline package for the GranTurismo, some of its most important features are of carbon fiber. The seats are one-piece items and are newly fitted for this version. The button ‘Sport’ right in the middle of the dashboard gives the driver an additional experience. It will give the exhaust a richer sound and the gear changes are just 0,1 of a second. Shifting by using paddles on the wheel are an option if you want them to be made from carbon fiber. Customers have the option to choose for the full automatic transmission (6 speed ZF) or the robotized transmission. If a customer chooses for the automatic version, the interior will be fitted with leather, the other option is the robotized transmission, than Alcantara will be used to finish the interior. All this power also has to be stopped, this is why a new version of the Brembo’s are installed on this Maserati, they will stop the car also with speeds around 300 km per hour. According to Maserati, the car brakes from 100 to 0 within 35 meters. Accelerating to 100 km per hour is about 4.7 seconds (4.8 seconds for the automatic gearbox). Fuel consumption is 1 liter on 6.4 km.
