Sporty design for new Alfa Romeo 169

Fresh rumours which came from CEO Harald Wester’s presentation in front of investors, confirm that Alfa Romeo’s new E-segment flagship will get a sporty “aggresive” look. The project is already a few years on the move when it started with a Centro Stile design contest at the SPD Scuola Politecnica di Design in 2008. The concept of the Slovakian Ian Bunjak (Alfa Romeo ‘Coelus’) was the favourite amongst it’s competitors back then. (Photo gallery).
Today made clear that the new Alfa breed will arrive in 2014, and will be based on an all new ‘LX’ platform (‘Large’/’E-Evo’) with rear wheel drive. In fact it will be exactly the same as the new Maserati which will be available on the market a year earlier. Early voices suggested production to be fullfilled in Brampton, Canada. However it’s more likely this will now take place in Grugliasco, the Maserati plant. The design of the ’169′ , it’s more common but unofficial name, will carry a lot of distinctive Alfa DNA. Prices compared to the Maserati will not differ a great deal: around 50.000 euro because the Maserati will ‘just’ be the basic model.
