Production Fiat Panda Classic stops in December
After nearly ten years, the production of the unbelievably reliable Fiat Panda Classic in Polish Tychy will come to an end. The predecessor of the new generation was a big success, even in times when Fiat was having difficulties on the old continent. A true champion then, which is, even now, still selling well despite the decreasing market. The new model coming from Pomigliano d’Arco will thus be taking over, meaning there will be no production transfer, unlike earlier rumors had us think. We’re now expecting Fiat to introduce a new entry-level model of the new Panda in order to keep on attracting the people with a low budget.
So far this year, 57.000 Panda ‘Classic’ models have been produced in Poland. In Pomigliano, 120.000 of the new model have rolled of the production line. Because of the depressing market, the assembly line is forced to shut down from time to time. The factory near Naples is thus easily capable of dealing with the disappearance of the Classic. There are now 2200 people employed there (out of 4700). The maximum production capacity is 300.000 units on an annual basis.
