Fiat Group and Mazda sign provisional agreement for the Duettottanta

Finally Alfa Romeo will expand their model range with a new RWD roadster. The newly expected roadster is probably a resemblance of Pininfarina’s Duettottanta. The new car should be in the showroom in about 3 years. We can state clearly now that Alfa Romeo should become the sporty premium brand within the FGA. Shortly we will see the new ‘limited’ 4C and if we believe the rumours a 6C and 8C are also under development.
The Duettottanta will be build on a similar platform as will be used for the next generation Mazda MX-5. Both parties signed an preliminary agreement, for the two cars which will be developed till 2015. One of the most remarkable information is related to where these cars will be produced, namely in Hiroshima Japan. According to Sergio Marchionne there will be a more global Alfa Romeo than before.
Of course the cars will be unique in their design and characteristics. Also the way these cars will be powered are very different. Alfa Romeo will probably use the 1,4 MultiAir engine or even the 1750 Pratola Serra. Writing this article the more we realize that Alfa Romeo will build more cars outside the peninsula. Regrettably for a lot of people an Alfa Romeo from this magnificent country is precisely the charm.

The car could be a dream come true for Alfisti. The MX-5 is one of the best handling cars and is a true driver’s tool. Alfa Engines, Styling and a bit of Italian tweaking could make it an all time great! The two companies have so much more to share and complement each other that it makes an ideal fit providing cultures don’t clash.
Finally a RWD lightweight roadster!
