Chances are big that Abarth will compete in the WRC against the ‘big boys’ within the near future. If Abarth actually does enter the WRC, it will be the first Italian competitor since the glory days of Lancia and succeses of the Fiat 131 Rally in ’77,’78 and ’80. Abarth is currently a successful participant in the ERC, with the Punto S2000 (based on the Grande Punto). Followers of our website know that the rumours about Abarth joining the WRC ‘circus’ have been around for a while. Unfortunately the source of this latest rumour is unknown. We assume that Abarth is aiming for the 2013 season and that they will then use the new generation Punto.  This assumption is contradictory to what we posted earlier, since the successor of the current Punto will only appear in 2014 according to our information.
